Types of hip pain and their causes
Hip pain can manifest in various ways, both intra articular (within the joint) and extra articular (surrounding musculature) each indicating a different underlying issue. Some common types of hip pain include - joint pain, muscle strains, tendinitis, hip labral tears or just general soreness in the hip.
Hip pain can stem from various causes direct, indirect or medically related, including:
-
Falls, accidents, and sports-related impacts can lead to fractures, dislocations, or soft tissue injuries around or within the hip joint.
-
Engaging in repetitive movements or activities without adequate rest can strain the muscles, tendons, and ligaments in the hip region. Sore hips after running could also be a sign of overuse without enough rest for the muscles surrounding the hip and repetitive loading to the hip joint to recover.
-
Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that can cause the cartilage in the hip joint to wear down over time, resulting in pain and limited hip range.
-
Rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis, and other autoimmune or inflammatory conditions can lead to hip pain.
-
Generally does not correlate to pain, but can lead into muscle imbalances causing strain on the hip joint, developing pain.
How Proform Physiotherapy Can Help
Your discomfort has a story, we read it.
Most standard clinical approaches chase local symptoms. At Proform, we trace the thread—from how you move and manage physical load, to why the discomfort showed up in the first place.
Here is how we redefine your care:
WE LISTEN, THEN WE LOOK
Every body tells a different movement story. Our experienced clinicians assess your full kinetic chain, strength balance, and daily biomechanics. This builds an objective picture of what is driving your limitations—focusing not just on where it hurts, but “why”.
INDIVIDUALISED CLINICAL CARE
Our modern facilities are equipped to support progressive, active rehabilitation. Your care merges tailored manual therapy with structured exercise strategies chosen specifically for your physical presentation—never pulled from a generic template.
PATIENT -CENTERED LONGEVITY
We treat individuals, not just injuries. Your management plan is designed to easily adapt to your training volume, career demands, and lifestyle. We partner with you throughout your rehabilitation journey, providing clear education to ensure you build physical strength that lasts.
Get back to doing what you love, sooner
This is the Proform approach.
We don't hand you a sheet of exercises and send you on your way. You'll work with a physio who explains what's happening, adjusts the plan as you progress, and holds themselves to the same standard you'd expect from any high-performance team.
